Bangor have received 35 applications for their vacant manager's position, with chairman Nick Pritchard confirming interviews are underway. The search for a permanent boss follows Michael Johnston's departure at the end of August and a period of interim leadership.

Pritchard said the volume of interest underlines the club's stature. "We’ve had 35 applications," he stated. "More importantly, it kind of goes to show just how big Bangor is as a club." The chairman added that the process is moving forward. "We have interviewed a few managers," he said. "We’re interviewing a few more."

Search criteria and ambitions

The club has decided against an internal appointment and is seeking a candidate with at least an A Licence or Pro Licence. The successful applicant must bring experience, a strong personality, and the ability to work with the existing squad. Knowledge of recruitment, academy structures, and other clubs is also a requirement.

Bangor's ambitions are clear: promotion to the Cymru Premier and eventual qualification for European football. The club's budget remains the same as last year following significant previous investment, but the pressure to perform is high in a competitive league.

Interim leadership and current form

Following Johnston's exit after a victory over Brickfield Rangers, Sean Eardley took temporary charge. Eardley, who previously managed Caernarfon Town and Llandudno, oversaw matches against Rhyl, Mold Alexandra, and Penrhyncoch before his own departure. Top scorer Declan McManus, with eight league goals this season, then stepped in as a second interim, starting with the Welsh Cup tie against Mold Alexandra. He will lead the team for the immediate future.

The managerial uncertainty comes during a difficult spell on the pitch. Bangor sit 11th in the Premiership with just two points from seven games. Their recent form reads LDLDL, with the latest result a 3-1 defeat away to Limavady United on 15 September.

In that loss, a hat-trick from Limavady's J. McGonigle inside 23 minutes put the game out of reach before T. Mulvenna scored a consolation for Bangor in the 70th minute. The team has scored only four league goals all season while conceding 16. They are 17 points behind leaders Coleraine FC.

The promotion pathway

The club's long-term target is the Cymru Premier, but the immediate focus is climbing the Cymru North, where they currently sit fifth. They are five points behind leaders Brickfield Rangers, with the league champions earning automatic promotion. The runners-up face a play-off against the second-placed side from the Cymru South, with the winner then playing the 14th-placed team in the top flight for a place in the Cymru Premier.

Captain Cai Owen and the squad must now prepare for a tough run of fixtures while the board completes its search. The next test is a home match against high-flying Linfield, who are second in the table, on 11 December. The new manager will be tasked with halting the slide and building a team capable of achieving the club's stated ambitions.
